Emmeline Pankhurst- Pankhurst was a fighter for women's rights. She became particularly concerned about the way women were treated and it reinforced her belief that women's suffrage was the only way these problems would be solved. In 1889, Emmeline Pankhurst with her daughters founded the Women's Franchise League. This organization won the vote for women in elections for local offices in 1894. Pankhurst is similarly related to Antigone, because Antigone knew it was right to bury her brother, because he was apart of her family. Emmeline knew the only way womens conditions would change is if they had right to vote.
Martin Luther King Jr.- Martin Luther King Jr. was an activist and leader of the African American Civil Rgiths Movement. He was a human rights icon, who was committed to the equality and way of life for the American people. He relates to Antigone because they were both activsts for what they belived in. For Martin Luther king Jr. he wanted to help win freedom for the colored people, while Antigone wanted to fight for her brothers right to a proper barial.
Haemon - Haemon would be friends on facebook, because Haemon is Antigone's fiance. Haemon is the son of Creon, which is the uncle of Antigone, Creon who threatens to kill Antigone in front of Haemon. Haemon says that he could not live without Antigone.
Ismene- Ismene is the sister of Antigone. She is very different from her, because unlike Antigone, she does not want to go against the law to giver her brother a proper burial. She is a law abiding citizen. She does respect her sister though and cares even about her to try and convince her from takign her life. Even though then do not get along as well as they should, because they are blood related they would be friends on facebook.
NotesJOURNAL 1-
I and Ismene talk about Creon’s declaration regarding our brothers, Polyneices and Eteocles. I told Ismene that I am going to bury Polyneices anyway and nothing is going to stop me for he is my brother. Ismene tried to talk some sense into me or should I say tried to talk me out of doing the right thing. I know I could be hardheaded, I didn't listen to what she had to say and told Ismene to go to hell. But i stand for my decision, Polyneices will get a proper burial, even if it costs my life. JOURNAL 2-
Creon enters and officially declares that Polyneices is to remain unburied. A Sentry comes in and beats around the bush before telling Creon that someone has buried Polyneices. The Chorus suggests that the Gods have buried Polyneices. Creon says they’re senile and tells the Sentry to bring in the person who buried Polyneices. Creon storms out in a huff.
JOURNAL 3-
The Sentry brings me to Creon after catching me re-burying Polyneices.Creon comes out and wants to hear the whole story. Creon asks me if it’s true that I buried Polyneices. I of cource confess and then gave a soapbox speech about following the law of gods. Creon tells his servents to arrest my sister Ismene for just knowing about the burial, she had no part in it. Creon and I then argue about honor and loyalty. Ismene comes in and Creon asks her if she’s guilty too. Ismene tries to confess, but I shut her off. Creon pronounces, yet again, that I must die.
JOURNAL 4-
Haemon and Creon are arguing over me. Creon rambles about the duties of a "good son." Haemon tells Creon that he’s going to kill himself if Creon kills me.The Chorus convinces Creon that it would be a bad thing if he killed me himself, so, in a pathetic attempt to keep his hands clean, he decides to lock me in a vault outside the city until I die.
JOURNAL 5-
I begin to march through on my way to my death chamber. I can tell that the Chorus feels sorry for me, but I feel more sorry for myself than anything. I decided to make a speech. I accuse the Chorus of making fun of me. The Chorus brings up Oedipus. I and the Chorus debate. Creon cuts them off and sends me off to die.
JOURNAL 6-
Tiresias warns Creon that the Gods are against my death sentence and his refusal to bury Polyneices. Creon accuses Tiresias of being bribed to speak against him. The Chorus advises Creon to free me and bury Polyneices. Creon finally comes to his senses and agrees to follow the advice of the Chorus.
JOURNAL 7-
Messenger tells the Chorus that Haemon committed suicide. Eurydice comes out and asks the Messenger what’s going on. In painful detail, the Messenger tells Eurydice what happened: Creon had gone out to free Antigone, but she had hanged herself before he got there. Haemon is there and he spits in Creon’s face, then draws his sword and attacks Creon. He swings his sword at his father and Creon dodges his death. Haemon then turns the sword on himself and causeing his own death. After hearing the story, Eurydice runs into the palace. The Messenger goes into the palace to check on Eurydice. Creon comes onstage with Haemon’s body and greives over the death of his son. The messenger comes out of the palace and tells Creon that Eurydice, his wife, has killed herself. The doors of the palace open to reveal Eurydice’s body. Eurydice stabbed herself. Creon wails about being guilty for killing his wife and son. Creon's down fall was the pride with which he had. The Chorus observes that "there is no wisdom but in submission to the Gods."
